anyway I can STOP AUTO SAVE EVERY ONE AND THEIR MOM'S EMAIL ADDRESS?
This is freaking ridiculous! Why would Gmail think that I would like
to save every email address I send an email to....? I completely
forgot about this and when I looked in my contacts to find a friend's
email address, I also found a bunch I didnt know.
You seem to know what you are doing. I am trying to delete my
contacts forever, but don't have any idea on how to do this.
My g-mail is [email address]

Have you figured out how to fix this problem? I have the exact same
problem. It is so annoying. Is there a way to stop the autosave
function? I'm going to quit using Gmail if this continues.

Yeah, if there's someone from the gmail team listening, please make
this a priority. I really like gmail in general, but the autosaving
of contacts is a big frustration.
Ok, I get it, this is gmail and we search for things instead of
deleting them, but give me the option. Plus, most auto-saved contacts
have ONLY the e-mail address field populated, which means in order to
search for it... I need to remember the e-mail address (kinda defeats
the point). Sooo this means the best way to find a contact is to
BROWSE for it, which is really hard to do when there are hundreds of
useless entries between the ones I actually want to see.
(Oh, and the kicker: when I go through to periodically delete all this
baggage, I get through highlighting all hundred-someodd to be told
that gmail only let's me delete 20 at a time! Gmail... make...
angry.)
At the very least, please give me the option to disable the auto-save
completely. To make the auto-save a fixed default is a very microsoft-
esque "I know how you like to work better than you do" assumption.
Let's have none of that at google, please.
Even better would be to have an option like some other webmail
services that let's me choose to be prompted after sending a message
to a new address. I can then opt to add the contact with a quick
confirmation, or perhaps even add relevant information (like the
person's name) to the contact record at that time.
(This last option is actually pretty important even if I'm autosaving:
what good is saving a keyed-in e-mail address in my contacts if I
can't remember whose it was? And if I forget to type out the full
name when sending, a la "John Smith <[email address]>", then I
have to take a separate trip to the bloated contacts page to add his
name to the auto-generated entry?? Clunky!)

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! Gmail, this should be soooo simple. Why
in the world would you think that I want to add all of my friends
contacts that I don't even know. LOTS of time wasted deleting
contacts. PLEASE fix this SOON!!!!!
