Looks like pie crust is not in your range of expertise ;-)

My garden is full of them. Too many to be honest but the wildlife love the cover and my neighbour likes it because it helps her bird spotting. She says it's attracted some quite rare species in recent years. We have one hell of a 'dawn chorus' here some days. I heard such a fascinating birdsong abour 3 mo. ago I was seriously tempted to get my MD and record it. It was astonishing. I just stood there for 5 -10 minutes rivetted by it. I can think of worse worse ways of being woken up.

Meanwhile, my strawberries were a full three weeks late coming in and the blackberries (the local kudzu) won't ripen until late August. But we should be enjoying lots of cobbler by then. We had an unusually wet and cold spring (with two feet of fresh snow in the mountains during the first half of June).
Hey, don't diss the pie crust; that looks like a proper cobbler...

We did away with a whole home-made (by my wife) cheesecake last night.
Had 14 people over to celebrate the Fourth... Orange Beef (*), home-made Gazpacho, and salad... topped off with the cheesecake ;-)
(*) 6 Pounds of Prime Tenderloin, poached to an internal temperature of 120°F, cooled, 1/8" sliced, alternating layers in marinade tray, cover with orange juice and soak over-night. Serve cold. A taste to die for!

I have 2.5 acres of very hilly terrain, mostly woods, but there is a meadow that is surrounded by wild raspberries that are just now really getting ripe and wondefully sweet. I mowed most of the grass/weeds in the 1/4 acre or so that is fairly clear (with a 32 x 64 ft fenced area for my dog), and the ripe berries along the edges were very tasty treats that I could pluck when I went by. The best ones seem to be too far back in the bushes to reach easily, and are protected by their own thorns as well as poison ivy, but I'll figure a way to get at them before the deer and the coyote (and the birds) do. What about a piece of plastic pipe with an ID about the size of a raspberry? Maybe I can put one end in my mouth and suck the berries off the vine? Schlurrpp!

Out here, blackberries and poison oak are soul-mates. You'd think that the stickers would be a high enough price to pay.
It's interesting that in a city of 800K people, and really only a few good blackberry patches, it's not hard to find nice bunches of plump berries. Everybody else must get theirs at Safeway.
Oh, the pie is good. 2 cups blackberries, a few left-over blueberries, one cup sugar, juice of a small lemon, a little cinnamon and vanilla, a few dabs of butter.
